Charles^8 Van Wicklen (Edward^7, Jacob^6, Jacob^5, Jacob^4, Garret^3, Gerrit^2, Jentie^1 Jeppes), was b. Feb. 1869, Queens, NY. He married Gertrude A. Allen (b. 17 February 1874, West Orange, Essex, NJ; d. 12 Nov 1965, CA) Gertrude is the daughter of Edward and Fanny (Silber) Allen. Charles apparently dies between 1900 and 1920. He is found in household of his father-in-law in Essex, NJ in the 1900 Census and his wife, Gertrude is listed as a widow in the 1920 US Census for Los Angeles, CA.

The 1880 US Census for Roslyn, Queens, NY lists Edw. Van Wicklen, 40 (b. NY, both parents b. NY), painter (which census has this wrong...is he a printer or a painter?) with wife Emma, 36 (b. NY, both parents b. NY), keeping house with son, Charles, 11 (b. NY), at school and daughter, Alletta, 9 (b. NY), at school.

The 1880 US Census for West Orange, Essex, NJ lists Edward Allen, 40 (b. Ireland, both parents b. Ireland), worker in hat shop, with wife Fanny, 40 (b. Prussia, both parents b. Prussia), keeping house, and son, Milton Allen, 14 (b. KY), dau. Isabella, 10 (b. NJ), dau. Gertrude A., 6 (b. NJ) and sister-in-law Louisa Silber, 36 (b. Prussia). 

The 1900 US Census for District 183, W. Orange, Essex, NJ lists Edward Allen, head, 62 (b. May 1838, Ireland, both parents b. England) with wife, Fanny, 61 (b. Jan 1837, Germany, both parents b. Germany) with dau. Isabella, 30 (b. NJ), son George, 18 (b. Feb 1881, NJ), son-in-law, Charles D. Van Wicklen, 31 (b. Feb 1869, NY, both parents b. NY), daughter Gertrude Van Wicklen (b. Feb 1874, NJ), grandson, Milton E.Van Wicklen, 4 (b. Dec. 1895, NJ), and sister-in-law, Louisa Silber, 58 (b. Nov 1842, Germany).

1910 US Census for 3rd Ward, West Orange, Essex, NJ lists Gertrude Van Wicklen, head, 35, widow, b. NJ (father b. Ireland, mother b. Germany), Upholsterer in dept store, with Milton, son, 14, b. NY (father b. NY, mother b. NJ)

1920 US Census lists Gertrude A. Van Wicklen, 45 (b. 1874, NJ), widow, residing as head of household in Election District 216, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA with son, Milton, 24, single. The 1930 US Census for District 840, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA lists Gertrude Van Wicklen, 56, residing in the household of son, Milton. Milton is married to Frances and has a son, Howard. He is a props manager for a motion picture studio.
